Hurricane Ike

My Back Yard

Thank God that it looks worse than it actually is. There was only
minor damage to the roof. But a few feet over and we would have
been remodeling our kitchen! There was a huge pine tree that fell and
was heading straight for our bedroom but was held up by other trees.

The first night after Hurricane Ike blew through, we stayed at a friend's
house. That night a cold front came in and the rains poured. My back
yard started flooding and came within an inch of my back door. My
neighbor saw that the debris was blocking the water from flowing around
the side of my house. He ran in and cleared a path and saved my house
from flooding. I owe that man a beer... or two... kegs!

I have been very lucky. Many in our neighborhood had trees that
plowed right through the middle of their homes. And again, we
don't live in a third world country... I imagine going through a
hurricane in a thatched roof hut is quite a different experience.

Today is my first day back to work. Still no electricity at home
though,so I probably won't be making the photoblog rounds for
a while. I'll hope to be by soon!
